Our son, Dante was diagnosed with Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS)at 3 weeks of age. I will never forget that moment more than 15 years ago on Keegan's 30th birthday. That day changed our lives forever. We were told that our first born son would have cognitive delays, behavioral challenges, he would always be hungry and he would never be able to have children. How that for your first experience of parenthood?
After many months of trying to figure out what to do, we decided to take action by creating the One SMALL Step walk. 15 years later, it is running strong all around the world and millions have been raised. We are proud of the choice we made and we are grateful for everything that Dante has taught our family about patience and perseverance. Dante fights through his challenges with optimism and he works harder than anyone I know. He exercises everyday, he loves basketball, swimming and music.
Dante still requires 24-hour supervision and we have recently added doors to our kitchen to keep him safe which is why we choose to continue to fundraise for critical research to help eliminate the challenges of PWS. We are almost there but we need your help.
Funds raised will be used to advance PWS research through the Foundation for Prader-Willi Research Canada. You can learn more about PWS and the research that is underway at http://www.fpwr.ca/research/.
